Angel ALONSO (1923-1994) Black abstraction Mixed... - Lot 84 - L'Huillier & Associés
Angel ALONSO (1923-1994) Black abstraction Mixed media and charcoal 130 x 162 cm Provenance : - Estate of Mrs T. Paris. A rare and discreet artist on the art market, Angel Alonso's work has been the subject of renewed interest in recent years, as in 2009 when the Reina Sofía Museum (Madrid) bought a large number of his works, while the Spanish State received his archives (writings, correspondence, documents), with a view to creating a foundation in Santander. In 2013, the Àngel Alonso exhibition was held at the Artsenal in Dreux, bringing together the painter's works for the first time in almost 20 years. In 2014, twenty years after Angel Alonso's death, the Michel Soskine Gallery Inc. (Madrid-New York) is also paying tribute to the artist. Our painting is an important canvas from the 60s and 70s, which are intense years marked by a gradual return to the essential and is reflected above all in the color and materials. He began the series of large black paintings composed of powdered coal, burnt plants, straw, foliage and earth which gave the painting a unique consistency and intensity. At the same time he creates other works on wood, cardboard or paper where he continues his research and reflection on colour.
