The house CARDEILHAC was established in 1804 by Antoine-Vital CARDEILHAC. It is specialized in cutlery and flatware, at 4, rue du Roule and 91 rue de Rivoli. Producing pieces in various styles but all remarkable for the delicacy of their design and the quality of their chasing, the company quickly received numerous awards: bronze medal won at the 1823 exhibition, silver medals in 1827 and 1834.
From 1851 to 1885 it was managed by Armand-Édouard CARDEILHAC, son of Antoine-Vital. It won another silver medal at the Paris World Fair in 1867, and a gold medal at the World Fair in 1878, consecrating the prestigious company.
In 1885, Ernest CARDEILHAC, son of Armand-Édouard, took over the management of the company.
Ernest had completed his apprenticeship with the silversmith HARLEUX. It was with him that the CARDEILHAC company began to produce gold and silver jewellery. Assisted by three artists, the draughtsman Lucien-Hugues BONVALLET, the sculptor Ernest AIGUIER and the chiseller Frédéric VIAT, he presented his first works in 1889 at the Universal Exhibition and won a silver medal. At the 1900 Universal Exhibition, where he chaired the cutlery jury, he was very successful with pieces combining metal with materials such as wood, ivory and patinas.
When he died in 1904, his widow Marie-Amélie took over the management of the company before passing it on to her two sons, Jacques and Pierre. She continued the activities of the company from 1904 to 1913 at 24 place Vendôme for the manufacture of gilt and silverware and from 1904 to 1920 at 91 rue de Rivoli for goldsmithing.
In 1951, CARDEILHAC was bought by its main competitor, CHRISTOFLE.
