Exceptional opera coat - kimono from the house PAUL POIRET. Circa 1911- 1912. The model is made in an ivory colored satin and has impressive bat sleeves ¾ ended by a large lapel. The shape is ball and comes to tighten very strongly at the knees by gathering. The bottom of the coat is a flat panel reaching the ground. The piece has a neckline with black velvet lapels. We find two yokes of velvet and a large button closure at the knees. The edge of the collar is screen-printed with a fauvist floral pattern. Model "The Forest" made by Raoul Dufy in 1911 for the workshops Paul Poiret. The bottom yoke also receives a decoration of roses and leaves attributable to the same artist. The jacket opens on a bright fuchsia pink satin lining very contrasting and typical of the house. The label is not present but the silk-screen printing is. Extremely good condition considering the rarity and fragility of the model. The ivory satin is scratched with a few small threads pulled and has several small or slightly marked stains. 1 small pinhole on one shoulder. The lining has remained very fresh as well as the black velvet. Some marks along the bottom hem. A few small stitches have come loose on the velvet at the button area and at the gathering on the inside (minimal and no tears) The piece has just come out of a trunk and needs to be cleaned. It seems to have remained in its original condition. The FIDM Museum in Los Angeles holds the original coupon made by Raoul Dufy in 1911 for our coat (Museum Ref. No. 99.274.104) purchased at the sale "La création en Liberté, Univers de Paul et Denis Poiret 1905-1928" at PIASA on May 10 and 11, 2005.
