EIFFEL Gustave (1832-1923), The Eiffel Tower in 1900, Paris, Masson et Cie editeurs, Libraires de l'Academie de Medecine, 1902. AUTOGRAPHIC ENVOI of Gustave EIFFEL "To Mr. Gabriel Hanotaux of the French Academy respectful homage of G. Eiffel". In-4, publisher's full burgundy percaline binding, gilt title on the upper board. Numerous plates in and out of text, including six of 'folding. Accidents and stains. 32 x 25 cm. Two books are attached, Album de l'Exposition de 1889 (1 vol) and Exposition Universelle (1vol) Gabriel Hanotaux. Diplomat and historian, deputy in 1886, he was minister of foreign affairs in two cabinets in 1894 (Ch. Dupuy and Ribot) and from 1896 to 1898 (Méline). He published various historical works, the most important of which is the Histoire du cardinal de Richelieu. Elected to the Académie française on April 1, 1897, in the 4th round by 18 votes against 3 to F. Fabre and 13 blank ballots (in the 1st round, Zola 2), replacing Paul Challemel-Lacour, Gabriel Hanotaux was received on March 24, 1898 by Viscount Melchior de Vogüé. He died on April 11, 1944.
