Total height: 79 cm - Height at sight of the vase: 69 cm Provenance : Castle of Mouchy-le-Châtel Rich bronze posterior mount by Alfred BEURDELEY, finely chiselled and gilded in the Louis XVI style, decorated with a frieze of gadroons, broad-leafed shoulders, base decorated with a frieze of oak leaves wrapped with crossbars resting on a square base with square sides decorated with fleurttes. We find this vase on an invoice from Beurdeley, dated September 11, 1863 "Must, Monsieur le Duc de Mouchy a rich green water celadon vase, gilded bronze mounting, bird and tree decorations 2 600" (reproduced). The Beurdeley family was one of the most important dynasties of furniture makers and merchants in the 19th century, from 1818 to 1895. Its prestigious clients such as the Duke of Mouchy or Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie appreciated the quality of the fine gilt bronze mounts and the choice of precious materials for the decoration of their furniture and objets d'art. The systematic use of mercury gilding and the quality of the chasing allows them to perpetuate the tradition of excellence of the 18th century. In 1839 the Beurdeley House moved into the prestigious Hanover Pavilion at the corner of Rue Louis le Grand and Boulevard des Italiens (address of our invoice dated 1863). During the Second Empire, Alfred Beurdeley became one of the main suppliers of the Imperial Warehouse, he received orders from Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie, notably for their wedding, and supplied the royal and princely houses of Europe.
