The chased and gilded bronze frame in the Chinese style decorated with chimera heads and resting on four feet in the form of elephant heads adorned with jewels. Second half of the 19th century, unsigned. Height : 62.5 cm - Diameter with handles : 57.5 cm Small shocks to the enamel Provenance : French family collection. The combination of cloisonné enamels and gilded bronzes is typical of the production of Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892), he collaborated with Edouard Lièvre (1828-1886) for the designs of this type of neo Chinese furniture. Our jardinière has the characteristic features of Lièvre's design, such as the neck decorated with an openwork frieze in the archaic style, or the feet decorated with jewelled elephant heads. The latter are present on several signed pieces sold in recent years, such as : - a jardinière sold at Christie's New York, 20 April 2006, lot 192. - a pair of vases sold at Christie's London, 29 September 2005. - a pair of vases sold at Artcurial on 16 May 2017, lot 160.
