17th century Italian school - Christ victorious, standing in - Lot 26
17th century Italian school - Christ victorious, standing in slight contrapposto holding the cross, head bowed on his left shoulder. The silver Christ, the cross, the perizonium, and the gilded bronze terrace (one screw missing from the left hand that probably held the holy sponge, the aureole missing from the back of the head, one screw replaced). Gross weight: 633 g - Total height: 31 cm This Christ can be compared with silver reductions from the 1630s, based on models by Alessandro Algardi, known as l'Algarde (1598 - 1654). The terrace is pierced with an operculum, suggesting its function as a reliquary.
